Doane College in Nebraska has named an administrator from the University of New England in Maine as its next president.

The liberal arts and sciences school says Friday that its board of trustees named Jacque Carter as its 12th president. Carter will begin his term as president of the college's three campuses, in Crete, Lincoln and Grand Island, on July 1. He succeeds Jonathan Brand, who's leaving to become president of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Carter, who joined the University of New England faculty in 1989, has been the school's provost and vice president of academic affairs for the past five years. New England has campuses in Biddeford and Portland in Maine.
