An Axtell farmer has been elected to lead the Nebraska Farm Bureau.

Steve Nelson was elected president on the first ballot Tuesday at the bureau's state convention in Kearney.

Keith Olsen, of Grant, has spent nine years in the post.

He didn't seek re-election.

Olsen has said he's looking forward to going on mission trips with his wife and spoiling their seven grandchildren.

Nelson has been first vice president of the Farm Bureau and chairman of its State Legislative Policy Committee.

He and his wife, Elma, grow corn, seed corn and soybeans.

Nelson was elected to the bureau's board of directors in 1997.
