Communities, Individuals Recognized for Forestry Achievements

Communities and individuals across Nebraska were recognized for their work with tree resources during the Nebraska Community Forestry Conference and Tree City USA Recognition Day.

Tree City USA, Tree Campus USA, Tree Line USA and Nebraska Community Forestry Award recipients were recognized.

Nebraska Community Forestry Award winners were presented in five categories: Kelly Feehan, Educator Award; City of Bellevue and Green Bellevue, Community Enhancement Award; Galen Wittrock, Outstanding Tree Care Award; Papio Valley Nursery, Green Industry Award; Community of Fairbury, Paul Bunyan Traveling Trophy; Patrick Haight of Minden, Volunteer Award and Rhonda Stansberry of the Omaha World-Herald, Media Award.

Tree Line USA Awards were given to Omaha Public Power District, 12; Nebraska City Utilities, 9; Nebraska Public Power District, 7; and Lincoln Electric System, 7.

Tree City USA Awards were given to 108 communities. Seward received a 30-year recognition award.

Growth Awards and Tree City USA Awards were presented to communities that have shown exceptional advancement in their dedication to tree enhancement.

Communities receiving Tree City USA and Growth Awards and number of years in the Tree City USA program include: Auburn, 36; Battle Creek, 22; Brady, 19; Central City, 16; Creighton, 21; Gering, 23; Gretna, 25; Lincoln, 35; Minden, 22; Nebraska City, 35; Norfolk, 2; Offutt AFB, 25; South Souix City, 20; and Valley, 18.

Tree Campus USA recipients were: Creighton University, 4; Nebraska Wesleyan University, 4; University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 4; Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture-Curtis, 3; University of Nebraska at Omaha, 3 and Central Community College-Hastings, 2.
