A fire blackened about 40 acres in a harvested cornfield in southeast Nebraska before firefighters gained control.
The flames were stopped short of the Brethren Cemetery northeast of
Holmesville in Gage County on Monday afternoon.
Blue Springs Fire Chief Brad Robinson says the cornfield had been harvested but that the stubble fire was hard to extinguish. A portion of the field had to be disked to prevent further spread of the flames.
No injuries were reported. The fire cause is under investigation.
