A federal judge has permanently blocked enforcement of Nebraska's ban on flag mutilation in a case brought by a member of Kansas' Westboro Baptist Church.
In Thursday's ruling, U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf says the law can't be applied so long as church members "otherwise act peacefully while desecrating the American or Nebraska flag."
Megan Phelps-Roper filed the lawsuit in July, say the state law violates her right to free speech.
Westboro members protest at soldiers' funerals because they believe U.S. troop deaths are punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. Members often trample on, wear and display the American flag upside-down as part of their protests.

westboro baptist church:well all i can say is thank GOD FOR THE P.G.R AN THE A.L.R.AN THOSE WHO STAND BEHINDE us P.G.R.an us A.L.R members.WE WONT CHANGE.
This is complelty WRONG. Having served in the Military for 23 years 3 years in Iraq and Kuwait. I find this judge to be so liberal. He needs to go to the combat zone and see what these men & women are dying for. This church group has the right to free speech but not to disgrace the FLAG, that these soldiers past or present/ future die for.
This is a disgrace!! Richard you should send her to Mexico & let her live in a country with no laws.
