Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley is clashing with a state agency that doesn't want to release health care records of about 30,000 state employees and their family members.
Director of Administrative Services Carlos Castillo told the Lincoln Journal Star that the information is confidential. He says workers don't want their employers knowing why they are going to the doctor and what treatments they are getting.
The state's Performance Audit Committee requested the audit be done and Foley asked for the records to analyze the costs of state health plans. Foley says state rules allow insurance claims to be audited.
A survey by the National Conference of State Legislatures shows that in 2009 Nebraska had the highest monthly premiums for family coverage.
