Prosecutors have dropped one of two charges filed against a 19-year-old Kearney County woman in the December death of 4-year-old Landon Payne.
The Kearney Hub reported Thursday that Kearney County prosecutor Bryan McQuay dropped the charge because of Katie Payne's cooperation with investigators.
Katie Payne is still charged with being an accessory to a felony.
Katie Payne's mother, 36-year-old Sharon Turnell, and Turnell's husband, 37-year-old Charles Turnell, are charged with aiding and abetting intentional child abuse that resulted in a death.
The little boy was Sharon Turnell's nephew.
Investigators say the Turnells and Katie Payne reported that Landon fell from a bunk bed. Doctors say he had several injuries in various stages of healing.
