Kite enthusiasts from 14 countries and more than 25 states turned out in central Nebraska this weekend to participate in the 20th anniversary of the Callaway Kite Flight.
American Kitefliers Association regional director Don Murphy
tells North Platte television station KNOP that the event is one of
the largest of its kind in the Midwest.
Kites of all shapes and sizes took flight, including an
octopus-shape kite measuring 88 feet long.
The event is held just south of Callaway and has grown every
year. Callaway proudly calls itself the "kite-flying capital" of
Nebraska.
Event attendee Mike Shaw said expert kite fliers are happy to
teach novices kite safety, how to keep kites in the air and even a
little kite history.
