The central Nebraska town of Shelby is rooting for their hometown hero, Curt Tomasevicz, to go for the gold in Torino.

Things are normally pretty crowd with a population of less than 700. All over town, the buzz is about Tomasevicz competing in the bobsled races in the Olympics.

Curt's dad, Dennis, says he's still in shock that his son is representing the United States.

"It really never hit until we seen him on TV at the opening ceremonies, just unbelievable to see him there," said Tomasevicz.

As a kid, Curt, or Curtis, as they call him around Shelby, enjoyed sledding. He used to go often, but a family friend says that probably isn't what sparked his interest in bobsledding, the sport.

"He always enjoyed doing it and I know he always talked about it. I remember watching the movie Cool Runnings with him and I think he got the idea from that," said Richard Gillespie.

Curt's parents will travel to Torino to watch their son compete. Much of the people living in Shelby have plans to watch Curt compete on bigscreen TV's donated for rent by the local Radio Shack store.

Curt will compete February 24th and 25th.
