Beginning Monday, November 24th through Sunday, November 30th, the Nebraska State Patrol participated in the Click it or Ticket campaign. A $27,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety was used to pay for overtime hours during the enforcement period.
At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, November 30th, a trooper with the Troop C Headquarters-Grand Island stopped an eastbound 1994 Honda Accord for driving too slow on Interstate 80 near Kearney, in Buffalo County, Nebraska. The trooper was given consent to search the vehicle. The search led to the seizure of 5.2 pounds of methamphetamine located in a speaker box in the trunk of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, 54-year-old John Smith of Vincennes, Indiana and a passenger 34-year-old Carlos Alamilla-Hernandez of Mexico were both lodged in the Buffalo County Detention Center each on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver.
Three fatalities were recorded during the holiday enforcement period. Fatalities were recorded in Scotts Bluff, Clay and Cedar Counties in Nebraska.
Troopers also issued 207 Seat Belt citations and warnings as well as 37 Child Restraint violations.
