Lincoln Police are investigating three burglaries over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend at three Lincoln Public Schools.

Irving Middle School Principal Hugh McDermott says thieves stole more than $10,000 in equipment from his school between 10 p.m. Saturday, November 29th and 8:30 a.m. Sunday, November 30th.

"It appears that they came in through one of the basement doors," McDermott says. "It's very frustrating. First of all you kind of feel like you've been invaded a little bit."

McDermott says the thieves went to the school office, where they ransacked the area. Then he believes they went to the health office, and broke into the school's medication cabinet. After that, the thieves apparently made their way to a second floor computer lab where stole several computers.

"They took about 11 of our computers, and about four of our overhead projectors, LCD projectors, as well as about five of our digital cameras.

While police are investigating the burglary at Irving Middle School, they are also looking into burglaries at two other Lincoln schools over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Dawes Middle School was one of the targets.

"They did pry their way with crowbars into several of the classrooms, and they were able to steal a small amount of cash from the school there," LPD officer Jared Minary says. "The third school we had hit over the weekend was Northeast High School. In that school, they ended up breaking out one of the windows in the portable classrooms," Minary says.

One computer was taken from Northeast High School. But Irving Middle School took the biggest hit. And Principal Hugh McDermott says he would like his equipment returned.

"Any kind of computer technology that we get these days we are thrilled to get," McDermott says. "We know it's costly, we like to have it when we get it, and take care of it, so it's very frustrating for me as a principal to lose that kind of property."
