Gala organizers hope to raise more than $262,000 dollars to help fund juvenile diabetes research. The money raised will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation, which organizers say is the world's largest funder of research.
On Saturday 400 guests packed the Embassy Suites in Lincoln for the 11th annual gala. Laurie Miller, the chair of the gala says the majority of the money raised will go towards the cause.
"87% on every dollar goes directly to fund research. It's an organization that's very concerned about cost and so it's a very good place to donate money, because they are very good with the money," said Miller.
Putting together the second largest event of the year for the non-profit organization is no easy task.
"Tonight's planning was a year long process. We start pretty much right after the gala ends the year before. And we work on things such as getting auction items and coming up with a theme for the event," said Miller.
As part of the fund raising effort, they held a silent auction. Those looking to bid had a variety of items to choose from, including a Joba Chamberlain jersey, husker gear or even a puppy.
The event was emceed by 10/11's very own Ken Siemek.
Miller says they always welcome donations for the cause. For more information on how you can donate, call 484-8300.
