Butte County authorities have ruled the death of a Spencer man a drowning.

Authorities say the body of Kenneth Johnson was recovered Sunday afternoon south of Bristow along the Niobrara River in north-central Nebraska.

The sheriff's department said Johnson had been seen fishing earlier in the day, then was spotted in the water.
