A 21-year-old Lindsay man will be sentenced later this month for throwing a knife that hit his mom in the back.
Platte County District Judge Robert Steinke on Tuesday found Trevor Leonard guilty of attempted first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Authorities say that on Nov. 1, Leonard, his mother and a couple other relatives went to a Lindsay bar.
He and another man at the bar got into a drunken squabble that spilled outside.
Authorities say Leonard got a knife and threw it toward the man and another, but instead hit his own mother, 44-year-old Logene Valdes. She told officers she'd gone outside to calm down the dispute.
The knife blade penetrated the back of her abdomen, forcing her to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
