The Council approved an amendment that would allow smoking only in designated smoking rooms. This would affect all public places, including bars and smoke shops. Still, this isn't the final word. The council still needs to take a final vote on the smoking ordinance to see if it becomes law.

The Council also decided to allow 18 months for all businesses to comply. For these amendments to take affect, the entire ordinance must be past. The Council hopes to vote next Monday.
