The water in western Nebraska's Lake McConaughy is at its highest level since 2002.
So visitors to the reservoir near Ogallala have plenty of water to enjoy over the July 4th holiday weekend. The lake is roughly eight feet higher than it was last year at this time thanks to a wet spring and healthy snow melt runoff from the Rocky Mountains.
Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District officials estimate the lake is at 54 percent of its capacity.
