An Ohio man convicted of wire fraud has been sentenced to four years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $387,000 in restitution.
In April, 45-year-old Jerome Osberger, of Toledo, was convicted in U.S. District Court in Nebraska on four counts of wire fraud.
U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher says Osberger told HMA Hotels LLC in 2004 that he could arrange $35 million in loans to refinance its debt and remodel its facilities. He took $367,000 from the hotel chain but had no means to secure the financing.
Stecher says Osberger had no reported income from 2001 to 2006 and used some of the money from HMA to buy two cars. He's also alleged to have defrauded a Branson, Mo., developer.
HMA Hotels operates one hotel in Lincoln and four others in Missouri.
