Treasurer Search

Gov. Mike Johanns is accepting applications through Dec. 12 to fill the State Treasurer's position.

The seat was left open when Lorelee Byrd announced her resignation Tuesday. Her resignation follows months of investigation into alleged financial misconduct in the office.

Last week, she pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of official misconduct and is awaiting sentencing.

The governor says he looks forward to hearing from Nebraskans interested in the job. He says he hopes to have a new treasurer in place by the time Byrd's resignation takes effect on Jan. 6. He will begin the selection process immediately following the Dec. 12 deadline.

Those interested in the position should send a resume, cover letter and application to the Governor's Office. Johanns says the search for a new state treasurer may not be limited to those who apply. The governor may also seek out qualified candidates.
