Daniel Ray Moshier, age 21, was sentenced to 20-35 months in prison on Wednesday, August 12, following a turbulent history with the Johnson County court system that began when he was 18 years old.

Moshiers original arrest was for stealing a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck in Tecumseh in December 2006. The owners, Rick and Kim Lester, had started the pickup in their driveway to let it warm up, at which time Moshier saw an opportunity and stole the vehicle.

Moshier was apprehended in Brown County, Kansas by a Kansas State Trooper. For that offense, Moshier was convicted of Class IV Felony Theft and sentenced to one year in jail.

While he was serving his jail sentence, in August 2007, Moshier attended an area rehabilitative meeting and failed to return to the jail. He was later apprehended at his girlfriends house in Nemaha County, Kansas.

Moshier was convicted in the Johnson County District Court of Class IV Felony Escape and sentenced to Work Ethic Camp in McCook, where he served 5 months. (Work ethic camp is a program designed for non-violent felony offenders with limited criminal histories. Individuals sentenced to work ethic camp are generally confined there for five or six months. During their confinement, they perform community service, receive drug and alcohol treatment, learn job skills to aid with living a crime-free life, and may receive their GED if they do not already have a diploma or GED.) Moshier was also sentenced to three years of intensive supervision probation.

In November 2008, Moshier violated the terms of his intensive supervision probation. He had been ordered not to break any laws or leave the state without permission of his probation officer. He absconded to Saint Genevieve, Missouri, where he was convicted of stealing motor fuel and resisting arrest.

Moshier spent several months in jail in Missouri and was then extradited back to Johnson County Nebraska, where Deputy Johnson County Attorney Rick Smith had filed a motion to revoke Moshiers probation so that he could be resentenced on the escape charge. Upon being resentenced, he received 20-35 months in prison.
