Representative Doug Bereuter is stepping away from the U.S. House after serving longer than any other Nebraskan.
He won every re-election with at least 60-percent of the vote.
Bereuter now says it is time to seek other challenges and opportunities.
Bereuter has said he is interested in taking over president of the University of Nebraska when L. Dennis Smith retires this summer.
But Bereuter said Tuesday that it is not appropriate for him to comment on whether he will seek Smith's job.
