The Extra Mile America Tour stops in Emerald Tuesday.

"The Extra Mile America Tour is not just a bike ride across the country it's a chance to really go out and find people who are going the extra mile and doing some amazing things," said Shawn Anderson. "You know in life when we go the extra mile it doesn't matter whether it's in school or jobs or whatever, value comes back to us and that's what we are trying to do to encourage people. In a time when people are losing their jobs and going through foreclosures just go the extra mile and something good will happen.

Anderson, the cyclist and creator of the tour is riding a bicycle from San Francisco to Boston.

"We live in a time when people are feeling very hopeless. They feel helpless about their positions or jobs or their looking for their boss or to the government or to some program to help them out when the person they need to be looking at is themselves," said Anderson. "Change, great things, possibility, opportunity; all of those open up when you look at
the person in the mirror. When you do that you give your life more power and things start to develop for you."

Anderson will be doing four things as he pedals:
1. Interviewing people and receiving stories on-line from people who have done and are doing extraordinary "extra-mile" activities.
2. Giving away $1,000 each to ten different people or organizations whose stories are exceptionally inspiring.
3. Prompting cities and states to establish 11/1/09 as "Extra Mile Day,"a day to do a little bit more in everything we do.
4. He is encouraging people across the country to create a better life by going the extra mile.

So far six cities and two states have established 11/1/09 as "Extra Mile Day."
