Attorney General Jon Bruning says a California-based alternative high school is a, "shady outfit."

Bruning filed a lawsuit yesterday against the California Alternative High School.

Bruning says the school advertises itself as offering a high school diploma to its predominantly Spanish-speaking customers.

But he says at best all the program offers is continuing education.

It is not certified by the Nebraska Department of Education. And Bruning says its diplomas will not help anyone get into college.

The lawsuit alleges that the program violates Nebraska's law on consumer protection and deceptive trade practices.

Bruning is asking for a temporary injunction to stop the school's owner from making the claims about the diplomas.
