A traffic accident in Pierce County at the intersection of 549 Avenue and 850 Road occurred Friday evening.

The intersection is located about three miles south of Pierce.

An eastbound vehicle driven by a sixteen year old male collided with a southbound pickup driven by a thirty one year old Madison County man that was pulling horse trailer.

The sixteen year old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in his vehicle were hospitalized, and the driver and a passenger in the southbound vehicle were also hospitalized.

Names of the deceased driver, the driver of the other vehicle, and the passengers are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.

Three horses in the overturned trailer appeared to sustain minor injuries and were removed from the trailer and transported from the scene.

The accident is being investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Fire and rescue personnel from Pierce and Hardar responded to the call.
