A man who attempted to flee after barricading himself in a Hastings apartment was shot by police Friday night.
Hastings Police Chief Larry Thoren says police were called to the scene around 5:22 p.m.
Thoren said the man was believed to have a shotgun and shortly after police arrived Thoren said police heard gunshots.
He said the man then walked out of the building with the shotgun under his chin and got into a vehicle.
Police shot out three of the four tires on the vehicle, but the man continued to drive away.
Thoren said the man did not respond to commands so it was necessary to shoot him.
The man's condition and identity have not been released.
