Jury selection in the trial of Grand Island city councilman Fred Whitesides is scheduled to begin today.
Whitesides is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a female inmate at the Hall County Correctional Center in 2001, where he had worked as a corrections officer since 1998.
He was fired from his post at the center in 1998.
He stepped down from his council presidency shortly after being fired.
