Casino gambling is an issue that has been on the table for years. 2004 is the year it could be resolved.

“I think quite a few Senators think it should be put on the ballot for the people to make a final decision on,” said Speaker of the Legislature Curt Bromm.

The speaker says other hot button issues will be the possible closing of two regional mental health centers, optional helmets for motorcyclists, cloning and lethal injections.

Senator Chris Beutler, who sits on the Appropriations Committee, says they will be facing between $60 to $211 million budget deficit.

“I don’t think anybody is considering very seriously, at least at this moment, raising taxes. We’re thinking about cuts or we’re transferring funds out of the rainy day fund.

Many senators say the first thirty days of the session they will deal with social issues and the last thirty days will be the budget.

The session begins on January 7th.
