The 2-year-old child attacked by a dog at a Liberty home early Monday is identified as Logan Homolka of Grand Island.
The Gage County sheriff's office says the boy suffered deep facial lacerations from below his right eye to his jaw, and several puncture wounds. He is in fair condition at a Lincoln hospital Tuesday morning.
Sheriff's deputies say the child and his mother were staying as guest in the Joe Wiles home when the boy apparently awoke and got out a playpen about 3:50 a.m. Monday.
Authorities say when the child began walking toward the bedroom of the home's owner, the 3-year-old mixed-breed dog may have mistaken the child as an intruder and attacked.
Deputies say the dog has been placed in quarantine for a ten-day rabies observation.
Liberty is a community of about 90 residents 19 miles southeast of Beatrice.
