Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson has called a Friday 1:00 p.m. news conference to announce the new football coach. That coach is expected to be former Oakland Raiders coach Bill Callahan. 10/11 will air the news conference live.

Callahan has been in Lincoln since Wednesday interviewing with Pederson. He would replace Frank Solich who was fired shortly after the Colorado game.

Callahan was fired by the Raiders on Dec. 31, one season after leading them to the Super Bowl. Prior to that he was an assistant coach with Oakland and Philadelphia in the National Football League. He served stints as an assistant college coach at Illinois, Northern Arizona, Southern Illinois and Wisconsin.

Callahan is married and has four children. His oldest son is a quarterback at UCLA.
