For one Grand Island Central Catholic student, mastering one musical instrument is not enough.

Danni Jo Dobbins says music has been a rewarding and enriching experience.

This fall, Dobbins led the Central Catholic marching band as drum major to a first-place finish at the Star City Parade in Lincoln. For the spring semester, she will be playing oboe. She just learned how to play the demanding instrument last summer.

Dobbins started playing piano as a second-grader and joined the band program as a fifth-grader, playing alto saxophone.

She says music is her vehicle for self-expression and she takes pride in performing with other talented teens.

When she isn't playing music, Dobbins might be found practicing for speech competitions. She is involved in oral interpretation of drama and informative speaking.
