A survey releases shows residents in McCook pay the highest property taxes in the state. Norfolk residents pay the least.

The study ranks 30 cities with populations between 5,000 and 100,000. The cities of Lincoln and Omaha aren't included because they both have more than 100,000 residents.

The survey looked at the total tax rate for residents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation. McCook's property tax rate is $2.43, while Norfolk's is $1.78.

That means if a homeowner in McCook has a home worth $100,000, they would have to pay $2,430 in property taxes. Compare that to Norfolk, where on the same house, the owner would pay only $1,780 in property taxes.

Some other cities and property tax rates listed in the study include: Kearney, at $1.80; Columbus, at $1.89; Grand Island, at $2.25; and Hastings, at $2.39.
