As State Senator Chris Beutler of Lincoln said Monday that he will not seek a seat in Congress, another candidate entered the first district race.
Senator Curt Bromm of Wahoo, a Republican, is scheduled to officially announce his candidacy Thursday.
He has scheduled stops in Falls City, Nebraska City, Fremont, Blai, South Sioux City, Norflok and Tekamah to make the announcement.
Beutler's name surfaced as a possible Democratic candidate after Republican Congressman Doug Beureuter recently announced that he would not seek a 14th term.
Beutler is considering a run for governor in 2006.
Three other Democrats had already announced their plans to run for the seat being vacated by Beureuter.
They are Senator Matt Connealy of Decatur, Fremont attorney Jane Stewart and Schuyler businessman Phil Chase.
Beureuter has thrown his support behind Bromm.
Republican Lieutenant Governor Dave Heineman has said he is seriously considering running.
