Burger King is following the national trend... low-carb high fat meals.

The second largest food chain is offering Whopper hamburgers minus the bread, with plans to add salads with steak, chicken or shrimp.

The low-carb fare follows restaurants like Subway, and Pizza Hut, who have already launched national low-carb campaigns.

According to the Burger King website, the bread-less burgers have five grams of carbs. A spokesperson said the platter meals have about seven.

In comparison, Subway's wraps have 11 grams of fat.

Burger King is owned by a group of investor firms, including Texas Pacific Group, Bain capital and Golman Sachs Capital Partners.
