Before Wednesday nights Husker basketball game lots of people were running across the train tracks as a train approached.

UNL Police say they were tipped off about the incidents a couple of weeks ago.

They are asking the public to be careful.

"Wait until the arms are all the way up before you start crossing. A lot of times you do get a train looking like it's done crossing the track and the second one will come from the opposite direction," said Captain Carl Oestmann.

Students say they do it to avoid waiting longer to get to the game.

"We can't miss tip off. We're hard core fans," said one UNL Freshman. He added that he did check to see how close the train was. "It was going slow. I checked twice."

According to the Nebraska Department of Highway Patrol seven people died last year on railroad tracks.
