Nebraska is the least corrupt states in the nation, that according to a national newsletter.

In its first-ever ranking of states based on public corruption scandals, Corporate Crime Reporter says others among the least-corrupt states are Iowa and Colorado.

The report says the most corrupt is Mississippi. South Dakota also is on the list of most-corrupt.

The newsletter says the 50 states were ranked by a corruption rate based on the number of public corruption convictions in the state over a 10-year period (1993-2003) per 100,000 population.

Report author and Corporate Crime Reporter editor Russell Mokhiber says the nation needs strong economies and strong political economies. He says the latter includes "reporters, citizen groups, prosecutors, judges and religious leaders who are willing to speak out about the rampant corruption in our midst."
