While mad cow disease and its impact on the U.S. beef industry have grabbed recent headlines, Congressman Tom Osborne reminds Nebraska producers to consider protection from other potential problems as well.

During a stop at the fourth annual Lexington Ag Expo this week, Osborne said it is very important farmers also do everything they can as far as crop insurance. He says reasons are uncertainly about the on-going drought and high demands on federal assistance money. He says educators and others wanting federal funds could be bad for agriculture in that regard.

Others at the expo also noted there are other opportunities to help protect producers.

All Points Cooperative agronomist Lee Rutkowski and General Manager, Don Swanson say technological advancements can help improve farmers' bottom line. They say devices can help determine when fields need such things as nutrients and water, helping reduce costs and allowing growers to remain friendly to the environment.
