A Union Pacific Railroad freight train has derailed near the western Nebraska community of Dix, some 22 miles west of Sidney.

UP spokesman John Bromley says no one was hurt early Monday when 23 cars of the train, carrying mostly lumber and steel, came off the tracks.

Bromley says both main line tracks in the area were blocked.

He says it was hoped to have at least one line cleared for traffic by 6 p.m. and the other by midnight Monday night.

UP is investigating the cause of the accident.
