Monday morning around 6:30 a.m. a fire broke out in a small office inside the Klein Center. The center is part of the Holy Trinity Parish, which has been part of the community since the late 1800's. Brainard Fire officials say the origin of the fire was an electrical cord connected to a copier. The cord shorted out and officials believe it was smoldering for nearly 20 hours.
The center is being treated as a loss for the whole community. Mary Lou Meister, the village clerk says it's a loss for all of Brainard and many events planned to be held at the center will have to be readjusted. The East Butler School is one of many who have offered a helping hand. The school says some events and clubs that are usually held at the center will have a place at the school.
The estimated damage is about $100,000 and church officials hope to have it rebuilt in about four months.
