Executive vice president of the Nebraska Cattlemen Greg Ruehle announced his candidacy for Nebraska's First District congressional seat.
Ruehle joins three other Republicans vying for the seat vacated by current Representative Doug Bereuter.
Ruehle, a Republican from Garland, says rural development and creating jobs are among his priorities if elected to Congress.
Nebraska's First District includes all or parts of 24 counties in eastern Nebraska, including Lancaster County, but excludes Douglas and part of Sarpy counties.
The race became wide open after Bereuter announced he will not run for re-election for the seat he's held since 1978.
