Boy's Death

A preliminary autopsy report cites a lung disorder as the cause of death for a six-year-old boy who collapsed while playing on a school playground.

Dawson County Attorney Elizabeth Waterman said in a release today (Tuesday) that Ivan Morales-Juarez died Thursday, due to heavy bleeding in his lungs. The cause of the hemorrhages is not immediately known.

Waterman said several Pershing Elementary teachers witnessed the boy collapse.

Principal Jerry Bergstrom said Ivan collapsed while talking to a teacher. The school nurse and a secretary tired CPR, but he could not be revived.

The boy was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died.

Further test results are pending. And a final report from the pathologist is expected within two to three weeks.
