NCAA President Myles Brand said he sees no problem with the University of Nebraska's effort to raise funds for athletic facilities amid budget problems on the academic side.

Brand - who has been an outspoken critic on the spending spree of athletic departments - was in Kearney Tuesday. He spoke at a Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce banquet.

He said he has learned from experience that 99-percent of donors dictate where money will be spent. If they decide to give to athletics, that's where the money will go.

Brand visited athletes and coaches at the University of Nebraska at Kearney before the banquet. He said the program is a model for Division II.

He said from his discussions with student athletes he can tell that they are a true part of the student body. They are not there just to play sports.
