Police identified the officer as Donald Chonis. He was arrested Wednesday and issued a criminal citation. He has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the case.

City prosecutor Marty Conboy said Chonis is suspected of paying a female inmate at the Douglas County Jail for sex. Chonis is accused of taking the inmate out of the facility and having sex with her multiple times.

The pandering charge stems from Chonis allegedly arranging sex for a third party.

Chonis is also charged with oppression under the color of office, meaning he is suspected of using his police authority to commit a crime.

Each of the three charges against Chonis are publishable by up to six months in jail.
