The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is proposing its employees take a mandatory online course to teach them about sexual harassment.

The proposed 90-minute course follows a series of events that have caused university officials concern. That includes the alleged attempted sexual assault of a student by a visiting computer science professor last fall.

Associate Chancellor Herbert Howe said a burgeoning sex scandal at the University of Colorado also has caused UNL to ask if it's being proactive.

But several professors see the course as a waste of their time and the university's money.

Chemistry professor Gerard Harbison said a mandatory course is an insult.

"I don't sexually harass anyone. Why should I have to take this class," he said.
