Possible Changes to Places That Sell Liquor in Lincoln

Currently there is an alcohol ordinance that requires 100 feet of spacing between an establishment that sells liquor and a residential zone. That can be waived in some circumstances.

Now there's a proposed amendment the council is looking at which would get rid of the waiver. While some are in favor of it, others are not.

Mark Whitehead, the president of Whitehead Oil says, "This will limit the use for properties and limit where retailers can sell alcohol."

Lincoln City Council Member Jonathan Cook says the current ordinance is inconsistent, and that's why a change is needed. He says he's in favor of the proposed amendment.

The council could vote on the proposed amendment as early as next week.
