Thayer County has dropped charges against a Davenport man accused of neglecting his horses.
On Thursday, the county attorney asked Thayer County Court to dismiss two counts of abandonment or cruel neglect of animals against 66-year-old Norman Graves. Graves had been scheduled to stand trial on Friday.
He still faces 25 counts of abandonment or cruel neglect of animals in Fillmore County Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.
The charges in Thayer and Fillmore counties involved 38 horses, nearly all of them thoroughbreds. Authorities said the animals were severely malnourished and near death when found in July.
On Wednesday, a Fillmore County judge approved Graves' request to relinquish ownership of the horses to a Missouri man.
