A music teacher at Southwest High School in Lincoln is on paid leave after being arrested for failing to register as a sex offender in Iowa.
The Nebraska State Patrol arrested 23-year-old Stephen Mohring at the school on Tuesday. Mohring was released from the Lancaster County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Lincoln Public Schools Associate Supt. Nancy Biggs said the arrest has nothing to do with any teacher in Nebraska.
Details about Mohring's conviction in Iowa were not immediately known. Biggs said Mohring's conviction did not show up in a background check because the crime was committed when he was a juvenile.
