The state has settled 19 claims that were filed over the fatal crash of a Seward school bus.

That's the word Friday from Attorney General Jon Bruning.

The state will pay three million dollars to settle the claims.

In all, 23 claims totaling $37 million were filed.

Two were withdrawn.

Two more, totaling three point two million dollars, are pending.

The state can deny the claims, which then could be decided in court.

Four people were killed and 27 were injured in the Oct. 13, 2001, crash in west Omaha.

The crash occurred along a stretch of U.S. Route Six in west Omaha. At the time of the crash the highway was under construction, narrowing the roadway to two lanes on a bridge where the accident occurred.
