A district judge Friday dissolved a temporary restraining order blocking Valley County Hospital from enforcing its suspension of an Ord doctor.
Hospital CEO Phil Lowe says District Judge Michael Owen's action means that effective this morning, Dr Julie Stevens is no longer able to practice in either the hospital or its adjoining nursing home.
The judge found that the evidence did not support several claims by plaintiffs in the restraining order request. He said that included claims that nursing home's patients could face involuntary discharge.
The judge also ruled that while patients do have a right to choose their own physicians, previous court cases support the hospital's rights to select its won professional staff. He ruled the suspension matter is between the doctor and the hospital, and Stevens' patients have no legal standing with the court in the matter.
