Score Keepers

Although glamour and attention are focused on players, even the floor officials, there is little notice for most scorekeepers and timekeepers at the state basketball tournament.

Armed with a couple of pencils, official scorekeeper Jim LaFollette arrived about an hour before his first game each day for the recent Girls State High School Basketball Tournament.

He filled in the scorebook with the lineups. He wrote down each basket, foul, timeout and substitution.

Willie Weisbrook, an official for 38 years, took a new seat at the scorer's table a couple of years ago and became the official timekeeper for the state tournaments.

Nebraska School Activities Association Director Jim Tenipor says timing and scoring problems have been non-existent in his years running the tournaments. He says it is because people like Weibrook and LaFollette run the show.
