The Nebraska State Patrol says an autopsy would be performed on a badly decomposed body found along the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District canal southeast of Brady.
The patrol says the condition of the body would require a check of dental records in trying to determine identification.
Law officers were called to the scene after Central staff found the body at a checkpoint Tuesday afternoon.
Patrol Lieutenant Rick McKain says the patrol, Lincoln County sheriff's office and a dive team helped recover the body about 5:30 p.m.
McKain says the case is being treated as a suspicious death pending an investigation.
