The Environmental Protection Agency is beginning testing on a section of Hastings for groundwater contamination.

The EPA is investigating Second Street Subsite, where for many years a plant that produced gas for household heating and cooking operated.

The byproducts were disposed of onsite and now the EPA suspects several contaminants have seeped into the soil and groundwater.

The agency will collect and test water samples for at least four weeks.
